Every person has the opportunity, if not the moral obligation, to participate actively in preserving, protecting, and nurturing our collective home, this planet we call Earth. Though specific activities may vary by place, circumstance, and ability, there is opportunity for each of us to do something, and there is a need now, more than ever, for each of us to do more.

Green Sweep is an informational assessment intended to raise awareness regarding near- and long-term opportunities for all of us to engage in planetary stewardship each and every day. Though Green Sweep consists of 100 questions and has a scoring key, this is not a test. This is not a measure of good or bad stewardship. It is simply a means for pointing out areas where greater consciousness can lead to a greener planet.

There are 10 categories, each with 10 specific opportunities for you to participate in planetary protection and sustainability. Some actions can be taken today; others may have to wait until you purchase a new automobile or home. Still others may never be a possibility given your specific circumstances.

Check the appropriate box for "yes" or "no" next to each question. If you choose, tally your score and reference the scoring key. More importantly, take stock of your stewardship status as of today and identify areas where you can begin to make changes.

Remember, this is not a test. It is not about how many "yes" boxes are checked. It's about raised awareness, a shift in mindset, and conscious incorporation of daily changes that can enhance the sustainability of our environment for future generations.

As you complete Green Sweep, you will notice that many items are geared more toward highly-developed, urban areas. If a question does not relate to your circumstances, simply check "yes" or rework the question to be more representative of your situation.

Though Green Sweep is not a test, every day our planet is being tested, and it's a test that collectively we either will pass or fail. Any positive changes or actions you take—no matter how small or incremental—help the sustainability of our planet and place you in the category of planetary steward.
